As we focus on prefixes and suffixes, it is important to know the MEANING of each of the word parts. Here are the definitions we will be using in class, and some examples.
-ly (added to adjectives or adverbs)
How something is done (quickly- in a "quick" way, slowly- in a "slow" way)
-ful (added to adjectives or adverbs)
Full of (beautiful- full of beauty, thankful- full of thanks)
-ness (added to adjectives to create nouns)
(happiness-noun for being happy)
-less
without (hopeless- without hope, cloudless-without clouds)
-able/ible
able to be done (fixable- able to be fixed, flexible- able to be flexed)
